l� Dear Community Member: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory PUBLIC AFFAIRS AREA RELATIONS June 24, 1994 The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) are requesting some changes to the hazardous waste facility permit for Site 300's Hazardous Waste Container Storage Area at Building 883. Whenever the Laboratory requests changes to its permit, it must inform the interested community.* Site 300 is an explosives and materials testing facility located in the Altamont Hills, about 8 miles southwest of Tracy, California. Site 300 has a hazardous waste facility permit to store hazardous waste, as required under State and federal regulations. The hazardous substances that are stored at Site 300's Container Storage Area consist of waste materials generated at the Site. These materials are not radioactive or explosive. The area can hold approximately sixty 55 -gallon drums or about 3,300 gallons of waste. DOE/LLNL has submitted the proposed modification to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). DTSC is the agency that reviews and oversees hazardous waste facility permits. The application is for minor or "Class 1" permit modifications.
