l� <br />Dear Community Member: <br />Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory <br />PUBLIC AFFAIRS <br />AREA RELATIONS <br />June 24, 1994 <br />The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) are <br />requesting some changes to the hazardous waste facility permit for Site 300's Hazardous Waste Container <br />Storage Area at Building 883. Whenever the Laboratory requests changes to its permit, it must inform the <br />interested community.* <br />Site 300 is an explosives and materials testing facility located in the Altamont Hills, about 8 miles <br />southwest of Tracy, California. Site 300 has a hazardous waste facility permit to store hazardous waste, as <br />required under State and federal regulations. The hazardous substances that are stored at Site 300's <br />Container Storage Area consist of waste materials generated at the Site. These materials are not <br />radioactive or explosive. The area can hold approximately sixty 55 -gallon drums or about 3,300 gallons of <br />waste. <br />DOE/LLNL has submitted the proposed modification to the California Department of Toxic Substances <br />Control (DTSC). DTSC is the agency that reviews and oversees hazardous waste facility permits. The <br />application is for minor or "Class 1" permit modifications.
