The investigation was requested by San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) in correspondence dated May 13, 1999.
The general scope of work will consist of drilling and sampling three soil borings in the vicinity of the
former underground storage tank (UST) to investigate the vertical and lateral extent of residual soil
contamination, collecting a discrete groundwater sample to determine if groundwater has been
impacted, and preparing a technical report that summarizes the methods and results of the
investigation.
BACKGROUND
3I
The site previously utilized one 1,100-gallon UST for storage of unleaded gasoline (Figure 2). The
UST was removed under permit from PHS/EHD on Febivary 5, 1999. Soil samples collected
beneath the tank contained ethylbenzene and total xylenes atl levels exceeding the respective
laboratory detection limits. Analytical results are summarized in Table 1. Groundwater beneath the
site is expected to be encountered at approximately 10-12 feet below ground surface (bgs).
SCOPE OF WORK
Ground Zero will supervise the drilling and sampling of three soil borings in the vicinity of the former
UST. One boring will be placed in or near the center of the"forme'r UST excavation, one boring will
be placed approximately 20 feet northwest of the former UST, and one boring will be placed
1 data/groundzehuffboy/wp 1199.doc
' j
