rrj �y <br /> Mr Martin Harms <br /> March 22, 2000 <br /> • Page 3 of 5 <br /> 4.1 Subsurface Conditions <br /> Soil beneath the site consists primarily of well graded sand to a depth of approximately 11114 <br /> feet bgs, and clayey sand, silt, and lean clay from approximately 10114 feet bgs to at least 26 feet, <br /> the maximum depth explored Well graded sand was also encountered in boring SB2 at a depth <br /> of 24 feet bgs Groundwater was encountered at a depth of approximately 9 5 feet bgs in each <br /> boring <br /> Petroleum hydrocarbon odors and some discoloration were noted in each boring In boring SB 1, <br /> the soil samples collected from 4 and 14 feet bgs exhibited slight odors with no discoloration, <br /> and the sample collected from 9 feet bgs exhibited moderate to strong odors with discoloration <br /> In boring SB2, slight odors were noted in samples collected from 4, 14, and 19 feet bgs, and <br /> moderate to strong odors were noted in the sample collected from 9 feet bgs Discoloration was <br /> noted in the samples collected from 9 and 14 feet bgs Samples collected from 4 and 9 feet bgs <br /> in boring SB3 exhibited slight to moderate odors and discoloration The highest FID readings <br /> were recorded in the depth interval of 9-11 feet bgs in each of the three bonngs (6,000 parts per <br /> million [ppm] in SB 1, 8,000 ppm in SB2, and 500 ppm in SB3) Soil boring logs are included in <br /> Attachment A <br /> 4.2 Laboratory Analysis <br /> Soil samples collected at 10, 15 and 25 feet bgs from each boring were analyzed for total <br /> petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) using EPA method 8015 modified, and benzene, <br /> toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) using EPA method 8020 In addition, the soil <br /> samples collected at 10 and 25 feet bgs were analyzed for gasoline oxygenate additives and total <br /> lead utilizing EPA methods 8260, and 6010, respectively <br /> The groundwater sample collected from boring SBI immediately north of the former gasoline <br /> UST was also analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and gasoline oxygenate additives using the methods <br /> indicated above, as well as total lead using EPA method 200 7 The groundwater sample <br /> collected from boring SB2 north of the former UST was held at the laboratory pending the <br /> results of the first groundwater sample <br /> 4.3 Soil Analytical Results <br /> No petroleum hydrocarbon constituents were detected in any soil sample collected at 15 and 25 <br /> feet bgs from any of the three bonngs Soil samples collected at 10 feet bgs from borings SB 1, <br /> SB2 and SB3 contained TPHg at 630 ppm, 200 ppm, and 16 ppm, respectively Benzene, <br /> toluene, and ethylbenzene were detected only the sample from SBI at 10 feet bgs Xylenes were <br /> detected in the samples collected from 10 feet bgs in borings SB 1 (6 1 ppm) and SB2 (0 79 <br /> ppm) No gasoline oxygenate additives were detected in any sample Lead ranged from <30 <br /> ppm to 5 3 ppm Analytical results of soil samples collected during the investigation are <br /> aatakgrounamltuaboy\mportslsubs,usum ace <br />
