-5 - <br />The responsibilities of the Emergency Coordinator include: <br />• Immediately identify the character, source, amount, and areal extent of any released <br />materials. Involved products may be identified using information contained on Material <br />Safety Data Sheets. With this information, the Emergency Coordinator will determine <br />the existing and potential threat to health and the environment posed by the emergency <br />situation. This assessment must consider both direct effects and indirect effects such <br />as contaminated run-off problems or the production of gases by fire fighting chemicals. <br />• Coordinate efforts with operation, equipment, maintenance, security, public relations <br />personnel and public emergency personnel at the scene. <br />• Jointly with supervision on the scene, and the Environmental Department, decide on <br />containment and cleanup methods for any spilled products or hazardous materials. <br />• As the incident progresses, provide updates to the SOC or Environmental Department, <br />including any changes impacting reportable conditions. <br />The responsibilities of the Environmental Department include: <br />• Communicate with agencies concerning incident, as required. <br />• Determine the need and arrange for any additional outside -the -company technical <br />support. <br />• Advise Emergency Coordinator of potential hazards and/or cleanup options. <br />• Arrange for treatment, storage, or disposal of recovered waste, or contaminated soil or <br />surface water, and decontamination as necessary. <br />
