i
FIELD REPORT
1993 SECOND QUARTER WATER SAMPLING
FORMER MAJOR MART FACILITY
' STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA.
' Introduction
On June 17 and 18, and July 2, 1993, ROY F WESTON, INC (WESTON) conducted a
' groundwater sampling program of six monitor wells at the former Mayor Mart site located at
1235 East Alpine Avenue in Stockton, California The field work was conducted as a part of
a quarterly program to monitor groundwater quality in the vicinity of former underground
' storage tanks
Water Level Measurement and Monitor Well Purge
' Upon arrival at the site, it was discovered that during the site restoration activities of the recent
remedial excavation work, the well heads of monitor wells MW-1 and MW-3 had been covered
over with fill material and that MW-2 was partially filled with gravel. MW-1 and MW-3 were
' located using a pipe and cable locator, uncovered and inspected Because the two wells were
clean internally and did not appear to be damaged, sampling proceeded on June 17 and 18 for
all wells except MW-2 Water levels were measured in the five wells at that time only for the
purpose of determining purge volumes Various methods were then considered to renovate
MW-2 The gravel was eventually removed using an air lift mechanism and the well was
redeveloped Sampling of MW-2 took place on July 2, 1993 Also, because the casing of,
MW-2 may have been disturbed, the vertical elevation of all wells onsite was re-surveyed to -
establish a current baseline for water level measurements A set of water level measurements
from all wells was taken at the time of sampling MW-2 (July 2) and that data was used to
represent water levels for gradient and flow direction for the second quarter monitoring event
' Calculations to determine the groundwater levels relative to Mean Sea Level (MSL) were made
and the results are presented Table A-1
' TABLE A-1
Water Level Elevations
Feet Above MSL
' July 2, 1993
' Well Location Depth to Water (feet) Top of Casing MSL' Water Elevation
MW-1 7456 2093 -53 63
' MW-2 7458 2095 -53 63
MW-3 74 18 2049 -53 69
' MW-4 7340 1946 -5394
MW-5 73 45 1943 -5402
MW-6 71 87 18 22 L -53 65
1 Top of Casing Elevations at those established by the July 2, 1993 resurvey of the well heads
M\RPTSWRECQTR WP
A
