WASTE DISCHARGE REQUIREMENTS _2_
GENERAL ORDER FOR DISCHARGE OF
GROUND WATER FROM CLEANUP OF
PETROLEUM FUEL POLLUTION
TO SURFACE WATERS
consist of the Report of Waste Discharge and filing fee and also as a
minimum, the contents detailed in Attachment A, Application Requirements.
6. This Order shall apply to individual property owners and/or operators
("Discharger") to whom a Notification of Applicability has been issued by
the Executive Officer. Existing wastewater treatment technology, primarily utilizing air
stripping and/or activated carbon, is capable of dependably removing these
constituents to concentrations which are generally non-detectable by
current analytical technology. The commonly achieved detection levels are
as follows:
Detection Analytical
Constituent Level Units Method
Total Petroleum 50 Mcg/1 EPA Method 8015
Hydrocarbons
Benzene 0.5 ug/1 EPA Method 602
Toluene 0.5 ug/1 EPA Method 602
Xylene 0.5 µg/1 EPA Method 602
Ethylbenzene 0.5 gg/1 EPA Method 602
Tetraethyl lead 1 µg/l ,Graphite
(as total lead) Furnace AA
9. Receiving water quality limits for
the constituents of concern can be
found in the
Inland Surface Waters
Plan and are as
follows:
Constituent
Level
units
Consideration
Total Lead
1.34
ug/l
Aquatic life
(varies with
as a 4 -day
(at a hardness
haraness)
average
of 50 mg/1)
Benzene
0.34
µg/1
Drinking water
as a 30 -day
supply
average
Toluene
300
jug/l
Human health
as a 30 -day
average
