' Job No. 4780200 - - Pape 6
' 3.0 METHODS AND PROCEDURES
' The proposed investigative approach and all variations deemed necessary will
be consistent with guidelines set forth by the SJCPHS and will be in
accordance with specific actions discussed in meetings with SJCPHS
representatives concerning the subject site.
3.1 Soil Boring Advancement Protocol
' Borings will be drilled using an 8-inch diameter, hollow-stem, continuous flight
auger. All augers, drill rods, subs and collars will be thoroughly steam-cleaned
' before drilling operations commence. Cleaned augers, rods, and other tools will
be stored when not in use. Cleaning operations will be verified by a
' representative of E2C, Inc. All equipment decontamination rinseate will be
contained and stored on site in labelled 55-gallon drums, approved for such use
' by the State of California Department of Transportation.
' Soil cuttings generated during drilling and sampling operations will be stored on-
site until the results of laboratory analyses confirm whether these materials
' must be handled and disposed of as hazardous waste. Soil cuttings will be
stored upon and covered by a hydrocarbon resistant liner.
' 3.2 Soil Sampling and Analysis Protocol
' Soil samples will be obtained during drilling operations at 5-foot depth intervals
' within specified borings or at depths otherwise indicated in section 1 .3 of this
Work Plan. Soil samples will be collected using a California modified split-
spoon sampler equipped with 2-inch diameter brass sampling tubes. All soil
sampling equipment will be cleaned with a non-phosphate detergent solution
' and rinsed with clean water between sampling intervals to prevent the potential
transfer of contamination.
1
' E2C, Inc.
