0 0 <br /> SECTION II. MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT <br /> 1. Objective <br /> To establish accepted procedures for conducting well development prior to purging and sampling <br /> activities in accordance with standard practices by engineering professionals. <br /> 2. Background <br /> Following the installation of a monitoring well, it is necessary to develop the well in order to <br /> adequately remove the silt and clay(fines)from the filter pack material and in the immediate <br /> proximity of the well, in order to minimize the infiltration of fines throughout the life of the <br /> monitoring well. <br /> 3. Personnel Required and Responsibilities <br /> Proiect Manager: The Project Manager(PM)is responsible for ensuring that field personnel have <br /> been trained in the use of these procedures and for verifying that the development procedures are <br /> performed in compliance with this SOP. At a minimum,the PM will maintain contact with the client <br /> or contractor involved,will be available by phone during the field activities and will review field <br /> notes for completeness. <br /> Field Geologist/Field Engineer/Soil Scientist/Technician: The field staff person assigned to the <br /> project is responsible for complying with this SOP.Responsibilities include: preparation for field <br /> activities,ensuring equipment is in working order and clean prior to the field event,providing <br /> adequate field documentation of events,observations,readings,measurements,volume of water,and <br /> overall development activities. <br /> 4. Equipment Required <br /> • Tool Box <br /> • Disposable gloves <br /> • Decontamination supplies <br /> • Water Level Meter/tape and paste/other device <br /> • Measuring tape <br /> • Indelible marker/Drum labels <br /> • Surge Block <br /> • Development pump and hoses OR bailers and line <br /> • Several 5-gallon buckets with I gallon increments noted <br /> • 55-gallon drums or other water storage facility <br /> • Well Development Forms <br /> 5. Procedure <br /> After completion of monitoring well installation,and no sooner than 48 hours following <br /> emplacement of the well seals,the well shall be developed as described below.
