Weston, Inc.
83 W. March Lane, Suite 12
Stockton, CA 95207
RE: Siebold Corporation -Luft Investigation "
820 South American Street
Stockton, California
Dear Rob:
The soil samples received by our laboratory for the above
referenced project were analyzed for Benzene, Toluene, Xylenes,
Ethyl Benzene (BTXE) and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) in
accordance with the detection limits established in the October
1989 LUFT (RWQCB Guidance) Manual and EPA SW -846 3rd Edition.
b, The BTXE analysis was performed by EPA SW -846 Method 8020 as
. recommended by the LUFT Manual. As outlined in the table below,
the optimal laboratory detection limits for ETXE are well below
the 0.3 ppm detection limit outlined in the LUFT Manual. Because
the final results are corrected for percent moisture, the
rn detection limits for these analytes in the Siebold data are
slightly higher due to the high moisture content in the soil
samples.
" Stockton Laboratory
LUFT Detection Limits
W (ma/L) SLmq W m I, S(mqJkqJ
Benzene 0.30 0.30 0.0005 0.025
Toluene 0.30 0.30 0.0005 0.025
. Table 3-6 of the LUFT Manual establishes a
detection limit for TPH analysis of soil samples at 10 mg/kg. If
we calculate the detection limit based upon the method outlined,
the detection limit is actually 25 mg/kg. The laboratory has
modified the DHS method k1y using 30g of soil sample, rather than
20g as specified by the method, to achieve a detection limit of
17 mg/kg.
I:
M
