6.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The results of our PSA indicated no obvious sources of, or evidence of, improper use or
disposal of hazardous materials/wastes on site.
Agricultural activities may have taken place adjacent to the property. The use of
pesticides at these locations cannot be ruled out, but should not pose any health or
environmental concerns.
The McCormick&Baxter Creosoting Company approximately 3/4 mile to the north has
massive ground-water contamination, but since the flow of ground-water is away from the
subject site, the likelihood of subsurface contamination is negligible. Minor contamination may
result from weed treatment on or along the railroad tracks.
Review of regulatory information and discussions with regulatory agencies confirmed
the presence of three facilities with leaking USTs. The three facilities are over 1/4 mile from
the subject site and are under investigation by the Regulatory agencies. Based on the
laboratory reports on ground-water sample 90-0817-1 Benzene was detected above the MCL
established by the Board. However, based on information noted above, the approximate
direction of ground-water flow and location of the borings, it is our belief that contaminates
are from off-site sources and should pose no health or environmental impact to the site.
Telic does recommend that if the client intends to use the ground-water for industrial
uses that additional ground-water studies may be in order.
Telic also recommends that import of fill from unknown sources cease.
11
