AL Ah <br /> Title ENV - HMErdous Waste Management— Disp3KI of Metal Fines - SOP .doc <br /> AiaRevision# Revision Date Document Owner Reason <br /> THE WINE GROUP <br /> 3 06/20/2016 Bement,Paul Revised to include metal fines collection buckets <br /> 1.0 Purpose <br /> To describe the steps for proper handling and disposal of Metal Fines generated in the <br /> machine shop and facility maintenance. <br /> 2.0 Scope <br /> This procedure is applicable to any person who generates Metal Fines when machining. <br /> 3.0 Supplies and Related Materials <br /> 3.1 Dust pan <br /> 3.2 Broom JUL 01 2016 <br /> 3.3 5-gallon waste drum for collecting metal shavings <br /> 3.4 14 quart pail with small dustpan and brush attached inside bucket <br /> 4.0 Definitions <br /> 4.1 Metal Fines: Any small machined metal waste (e.g. grindings, metal dust) <br /> generated through machine shop activities. <br /> 4.2 Oily Metal: Oil saturated Metal <br /> 5.0 Safety <br /> • Observe all machining safety procedures. <br /> 6.0 Overview <br /> 6.1 Machined metal shavings that are smaller than 100microns are designated as <br /> hazardous waste and must be treated according to hazardous waste regulations. <br /> 6.2 Since 100 microns are hard to see with the naked eye, it is the TWG policy to treat <br /> any Metal Fines as a hazardous waste. <br /> 7.0 Procedure — Disposing of Fine Metal Particles <br /> 7.1 After a machining operation that results in Metal Fines or oily metal, sweep metal <br /> residue into a dust pan. <br /> 7.2 Deposit contents of the dust pan into one of the 14 quart "Waste Metal Fines and <br /> Oily Metal' buckets located in the machine shop areas. <br /> 7.3 If buckets is 1/2 full, notify the storeroom and the storeroom will contact Safety <br /> Kleen to pick up the hazardous waste. <br /> 7.4 All other metal shavings and scrap should be deposited in the "Non Hazardous <br /> Metal Shavings and Recycling" can. <br /> Note- Under no circumstance shall hazardous waste be kept on site for greater <br /> than 180 days. <br /> Document Polder:SOP, Document#02654 and File Name RI-QAS-SOP0024-02 QAS-Packaign Materials-label Adhesion-ICL Bucket testing SOP.doc, Page 1 Of 1 <br />
