I <br />Title ENV <br />- H -dous Waste Management — Des <br />I of Metal Fines - SOP .doc <br />Revision # <br />Revision Date Document Owner <br />Reason <br />2 <br />10/19/2011 Bement, Paul <br />Initial Document Registration <br />1.0 Purpose <br />To describe the steps for proper handling and disposal of Fine Metal Particles generated <br />in the machine shop and facility maintenance. <br />2.0 Scope <br />This procedure is applicable to any person who generates fine metal particles when <br />machining. <br />3.0 Supplies and Related Materials - NA <br />4.0 Definitions <br />4.1 Fine Metal Particle: Any machined metal waste that is smaller than 100 microns <br />5.0 Safety <br />is Observe all machining safety procedures. <br />6.0 Overview <br />6.1 Machined metal shavings that are smaller than 100microns are designated as <br />hazardous wastes and must be treated according to hazardous waste regulations. <br />6.2 Since 100microns are hard to see with the naked eye, it is the TWG policy to treat <br />any metal waste which is smaller than 1/64" as a hazardous waste. <br />7.0 Procedure — Disposing of Fine Metal Particles <br />7.1 After a machining operation that results in dust like metal shavings, sweep metal <br />residue into a dust pan. <br />7.2 Deposit contents of the dust pan into the 55 -gallon "Used Oil Rags and <br />Absorbent' drum located in the used oil storage area. <br />7.3 If drum is nearly full, notify Kathy Fulton in the storeroom and she will contact <br />Safety Kleen to pick up our hazardous waste. <br />Note- Under no circumstance shall hazardous waste be kept on site for greater <br />than 180 days. <br />Document Folder: SOP, Document # 02654 and File Name RI-QAS-SOP0024-@ OAS - Packaign Matenals - Label Adhesion -ICE Bucket Testing SOP. doe, Page 1 of 1 <br />
