' GEOSYNTEC CONSULTANTS
Ms. Amy Terrell
31 January 2005
Page 6
In advance of the field sampling program, the site and proposed boring locations
will be surveyed by a licensed surveyor, to provide a more accurate site map and assist
with evaluation of possible source areas, if any.
' Field Preparations
' GeoSyntec will obtain drilling permits from the San Joaquin County Department of
Environmental Management. The sample locations will be marked with white paint and
Underground Service Alert will be notified. The locations will be adjusted as needed to
' avoid any marked utilities or overhead lines.
Field Methods—Direct Push Soil Sampling
Soil samples will be obtained with a Geoprobe or similar direct push drilling rig.
Soil samples will be logged by a GeoSyntec geologist according to the Unified Soil
' Classification System (USCS). Samples will be collected in acetate sleeves, which will
be cut at appropriate intervals and sealed with Teflon sheeting and plastics caps.
' Samples will be labeled with sample number, date, and time of collection, and placed in
a cooler with ice. All samples will be shipped under standard chain of custody
procedures to an analytical laboratory certified by the California Department of Health
Services.
All downhole drilling and sampling equipment will be decontaminated before use
and between sample locations by washing with laboratory-grade detergent and potable
water followed by rinsing with distilled water. After sampling is completed, the
boreholes will be tremie grouted with Type I/II Portland cement mixed with bentonite
powder.
Soil cuttings will be contained in drums, and stored at the JTF facility pending
analytical results and appropriate disposal.
' Analytical Plan
Soil samples will be analyzed for the following constituents by these methods:
' P:\PRJ2003REM\Wilbur-Elks\WtO250(JTF)\STOCKTON\S 1.X\2005 Source Area Invest\SSI Work Plan.doc
w G
RECYCLED AND RECYCIAELE r
