GEOSYNTEC CONSULTANTS
' Ms. Amy Terrell
5 October 2004
Page 5
' Field Preparations
GeoSyntec will obtain drilling permits from the San Joaquin County Department of
Environmental Management. Encroachment permits for the offsite wells and grab
' groundwater sampling will be obtained from the City of Stockton Department of Public
Works. The well and sample locations will be marked with white paint and
Underground Service Alert will be notified. The locations will be adjusted as needed to
avoid any marked utilities or overhead lines.
' Field Methods—Monitoring Wells
GeoSyntec will perform the following activities related to well installation,
development, and sampling:
• drill and install monitoring well;
well development and sampling;
survey well elevation and location; and,
report on results of well installation and the initial sampling.
' Monitoring wells will be drilled and installed by a licensed drilling contractor,
using hollow stem augers. GeoSyntec will provide oversight of the drilling operations
' and well installation. Discrete soil samples will be collected at minimum 5--ft intervals
to obtain geologic information and to identify the uppermost groundwater. The well
will be constructed to monitor the uppermost groundwater zone, consistent with the
procedures and methods used for the existing site monitoring wells'. Soil cuttings will
be contained in drums and stored on site pending appropriate disposal. A composite
' soil sample will be collected for waste characterization purposes.
6 GeoSyntec Consultants, 2000.
