CCRAL CHEMICAL CONY ADDITIMAL PRECAUTIONARY INFORMATION <br /> SODIUM HYDROXIDE, CAUSTIC SODA, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, LIQUID CAUSTIC <br /> Section_4, Health Hazard Information <br /> Effects of Overexposure: f <br /> SKIN: Destructive to tissue contacted; produces severe burns, <br /> resulting in deep ulceration and ultimate scarring. <br /> EYES: Destructive to eye tissue on contact. Will cause severe burns <br /> that result in damage to eyes and even blindness. <br /> INHALATION: Airborne concentrations of dust, spray, or mist may cause damage <br /> to upper respiratory tract and even to lung tissue proper, which <br /> could produce chemical pneumonia, depending upon severity of <br /> exposure. <br /> INGESTION: Can cause severe burns and complete tissue perforation of mucous <br /> membranes. of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and stomach. <br /> Effects of Chronic Exposure: , <br /> Local effect may consist of multiple areas of superficial destruction of <br /> the skin or of primary irritant dermatitis. <br /> Inhalation of dust, spray, or mist may result in varying degrees of damage <br /> to respiratory tract tissue and an increased susceptibility to respiratory <br /> illness. <br /> Energency 'and First Aid Procedures: <br /> SKIN: Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. <br /> Prompt medical consultation is essential . <br /> EYES: Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, <br /> holding eyelids apart to ensure flushing of entire eye surface. <br /> Seek immediate medical attention. <br /> INHALATION: Remove person from contaminated area to fresh air. If breathing <br /> has stopped, artificial ' 'respiration should be started. Oxygen <br /> may be administered if readily available. <br /> INGESTION: If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Give large quantities of <br /> water. If available, give several glasses of milk.
