File No. 20-3978-01.W16 KLEINFELDER
January 8, 1997
A surface soil sample will be collected at another location on the Spreckels property and used
to establish naturally occurring metals concentrations for comparison. The background soil
sample location will be selected during field activities, and will be left to the discretion of the
field geologist. However, it will likely be obtained in the former orchard located in the
northwest portion of the site.
Laboratory Analysis
Each of the soil samples selected for quantitative analysis will be submitted under chain-of-
custody control to Sequoia Analytical Laboratories (Sequoia) of Sacramento, California.
Sequoia is certified by the California Department of Toxic Substances to perform the requested
analyses.
Two soil samples from each boring location, and the background soil sample will be submitted
for analysis. The samples will be selected based upon field observations, qualitative field
screening results, and the depth in the boring. Each of the soil samples and the background
sample will be analyzed for CAM 17 metals. It is anticipated that samples will be analyzed on
a normal laboratory turnaround schedule, which usually requires up to 10 working days for
receipt of analytical data.
REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of the soil sampling and our receipt and review of the analytical results, a
report will be prepared for client review. The report will include:
• A description of field activities, observations, and protocols;
• Lithologic logs and, if appropriate, interpreted geologic cross sections;
• Tabularized results of soil sample analysis with copies of certified analytical
laboratory results with chain-of-custody documentation;
• Conclusions and recommendations.
All information gathered during the study by Kleinfelder is considered confidential and will be
released only upon written authorization from the client or as required by law. California law
requires a person to inform the state if a situation is encountered that can be considered an
immediate endangerment to the public's health or welfare and/or to the environment.
SCHEDULE
Kleinfelder could initiate field activities within approximately 3 to 5 working days of receiving
written authorization to proceed. Our report will be submitted for client review within
approximately 10 working days of receiving analytical results. Verbal results will be provided
upon our receipt of the analytical data. The estimated completion time for this scope of work is
approximately 3 to 5 weeks.
10-3978-01.W16/107PE014 Page 3 of Copyright 1997, Kleinfelder, Inc.
