Box 657
West Sacramento, California 95691 JAN ,
0 1991
Ei;IRONMENTALHEALTH
OILS SAMPLING AND TESTING F ERM!7/SERVICES
TRANSPORTATION
781 Way
Stockton, California
WKA No. 1004.37
Introduction
We have completed the observation, sampling and laboratory testing of soils exposed during the
removal of two underground fuel tanks from the subject property. One 10,000-gallon diesel tank
and one 7,500-gallon diesel tank were removed from the property on January 14, 1991.
The scope of our work included sampling and laboratory testing of soils obtained from beneath
each end of the diesel fuel tanks and at every 20 lineal feet along product line as recommended
in the Sampling Protocol for Routine Tank Removals presented in the Tri-Regional Guidelines of
the California Regional Water Quality Control Board (CRWQCB).
Soil samples were obtained by driving clean, two-inch diameter brass tubes into soil taken from the
sample locations with a backhoe bucket; sample locations and depths are shown on Plate 1. The
sample tubes were sealed with aluminum foil, plastic caps, and tape to reduce volatile hydrocarbon
loss. Samples were preserved on ice and submitted to a certified analytical laboratory for analysis
of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), and benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene (BTX&E).
Samples taken from beneath the 7,500-gallon diesel tank also were analyzed for TPH as gasoline,
WET lead, and ethylene dibromide (EDB), as directed by Letitia Resch of the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division. Samples were handled and transported in
accordance with current state and county guidelines.
3050 INDUSTRIAL BOULEVARD PO BOX 1137 WEST SACRAMENTO.
