Box 388
Stockton, California 95201-0388
Dear Eleanor.
Bubfeat: Dopaoo, Inc. Pres* wash-up waste
This letter is a clarification of Dopaco's classification and
handling of the subject waste stream. Based on sampling
conducted in 199c-1993, attached, this waste stream was
classified as RCRA and CA non-hazardous. During a routine
inspection by PHS in August 1993, it was determined that nopaca+s
off--press make ready (OPMR) waste was contaminated with copper,
making it a hazardous waste by CA standards. It was determined
that the clipper is corning from several inks used for printing and
from copper used in parts on the presses.
The subject waste is generated from washing down the printing
presses. OPMR waste is generated by cleaning print sumps and
other parts from the presses. 'Therefore, Dopaco decided that the
potential exists for this waste stream to also be contaminated
with copper. It is believed that this potential is much less
than for the OPMR waste. This waste is very dilute,
approximately 951 water. Any copper in this waste would be from
ink washed off the presses. Dnly four of the 1.57 inks used
during 1993 contained copper.
Although Dopaclo believes the potential for contamination of this
waste stream is very small, we do not want to risk disposing of
even a small quantity of hazardous waste improperly. Therefore,
In September 1993 we reclassified the waste stream as hazardous.
We handle and dispose of it as hazardous,
If you need additional clarification, please call.
Sincerely,
Phoebe C.
