UPOUO. S E P 2 2 1992
N V NMENTAL HEALTH
I MIT/HovlcES
4N
OORACO.INC. 4545 CANTAS LANE STOCKTON. CALIFORNIA 95206 U.S.A. 309-983-1 930 FAX 209-983-1473
July 23 , 1992
Ms. Laura Gentile
US, Environmental Protection Agency
75 Hawthorne Street
San Francisco, CA 94105-3901 L;Ve
Subject: Facility Inspection Report for Dopaco, Inc.
This letter is to clarify some issues from the Inspection report
prepared for our facility on July 1, 1992 .
Under the heading "Background", in the first paragraph, the last
line should read, "From 1981 until 1987. . . . " Dopaco commenced
occupation on 800 W. Church Street, Stockton CA in September of 1981.
In reference to the waste generation section:
1. Toulene is not present in the soap called Varn (see attached
MSDS) . Straight Toulene was used to clean the presses. The
cleaning rags used in this process contaminated the press
water. The biodegradable cleaners mentioned in your report have
replaced Toulene for cleaning purposes.
2 . The press water waste was classified as corrosive due to the
presence of Caustic Potash (1310-58-3) in the Varn Soap (see
attached MSDS) . Varn does not contain Toulene and is no longer
used at Dopaco.
3 . The trial varnish, mentioned in the second to last paragraph,
contained MEK not Toulene. MEK is no longer present in any inks
or varnish at Dopaco.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
&t4
, -M jpltk
Beth M.
