0 0 <br /> go <br /> Is*1 � R <br /> S U <br /> �a PERMANENTE <br /> MEDICAL CENTER - STOCKTON <br /> SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br /> POLICY/PROCEDURE MANUAL <br /> SUBJECT: HAZARDOUS MATERIAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br /> TITLE: HAZARDOUS MATERIAL SPILL EFFECTIVE DATE: 7/22/02 <br /> MANAGEMENT <br /> POLICY NUMBER: 5.06 <br /> DISTRIBUTION: Stockton Medical Center PAGE 1 OF 9- <br /> 1.0 PURPOSE <br /> 1.1 To prevent the exposure of Medical Center employees to hazardous <br /> material spills, and to provide employees with specific guidelines for <br /> handling the clean up of hazardous material spills. <br /> 2.0 POLICY <br /> 2.1 It is the Medical Center's policy that in those departments where the <br /> potential for significant hazardous material spills exists, that those <br /> departments be properly trained and primarily responsible for "first <br /> response" at the awareness level. First response at the awareness Ievel <br /> includes primary identification, isolation, containment, neutralization <br /> (when possible) and appropriate initial clean up procedures based on the <br /> type and amount of chemical, level of risk, time of day/week, and whether <br /> or not personal injury has occurred. <br /> 2.1.1 Department staff are required to have Department Specific <br /> Hazard Communication and Hazardous Materials training <br /> prior to being involved in "first response" activities at the <br /> awareness level. <br /> 2.2 Departments with these responsibilities will be prepared to respond with current <br /> procedures, incidental spill sheets, and equipped to respond with appropriate <br /> equipment and materials. <br /> Fresno Revision dates: 09/12196, 6/25198, 3/30100, 8/1/01,Stockton revision date 07/22/02 <br />
