`... .,s
Environmental Health Department
San Joaquin County
Inspection Report of Jan 18, 2005
Offenses Cited and necessary corrections:
#10 Welding Slag
We are required to determine if this is a hazardous substance and treat accordingly or, as we
were told, this has already been determined to be a hazardous substance by others and we
should treat it as such.
Recommendation:
Provide metal bucket with lid so that all welding slag can be cleaned up daily and placed In this
container. This container will be identified as"Welding Slag"and the lid kept closed and we will
determine the appropriate waste stream for it.
#12 Spent Absorbent
Spent absorbent must be cleaned up daily and disposed of in an appropriate waste stream.
Recommendation:
Provide for lidded plastic containers specifically for absorbent. We will make an attempt to utilize
this form of conatainment less and move towards industry standard fiber type of absorbers.
These will be disposed of in our waste stream with appropriate vendors.
#20 Unlabeled Containers
Two Waste Oil Drums (just emptied) did not have appropriate labeling. Keep a supply of
replacement labels on hand and always have them correctly dated and visable.
#21 Open Containers
Two or three buckets used to move oil around were observed at the oil loading rack. The
containers were open, unlabeled and had some residue in them.
Recommendation:
All buckets used to transport oil will have lids and be labeled. No buckets will be left with
residual oil. Oil remaining must be placed back in original containers or in waste oil drums.
To Do List:
1. Purchase Steel Bucket with lid for welding slage. Container MUST be labeld "Welding
Slag". All spent welding material must be cleaned up daily and placed in this container.
2. Purchase Plastic drum for spent absorbent. Container MUST have a lid. Suggest 55
gallon size and have container labeled"Spent Absorbent'
3. Call American Valley Waste ((800) 732-4645) and get a supply of Waste Oil Stickers to
keep on hand. Make sure that drums are emptied as soon as possible and that stickers
and kept up to date.
4. All buckets used for transporting oil MUST have lids and they MUST be labeled. This will
also aid in cross contamination issues.
