A UW handler shall manage lamps in
a way that prevents releases of any UW or component of a UW to the environment, as follows: A UW
handler shall contain any lamp in a container or package that is structurally sound, adequate to
prevent breakage, and compatible with the contents of the lamp. Such a container or package shall
remain closed and shall lack evidence of leakage, spillage or damage that could cause leakage under
reasonably foreseeable conditions. Correct immediately by maintaining UW lamps in a closed
container.
All UW lamp boxes were immediately closed with all containing lids on Jan. 5, 2012.
Each box is designed in accordance to hazardous materials shipping standards and are all sized according
to lamp type/style. Each enclosure is equipped with primary internal containment made of a zippered,
heavy plastic liner along with a primary set of flaps using Velcro to keep it securely shut during storage
(designed for multiple openings). An outer set of flaps that require shipping tape to seal close is used as
a final closure. Both closures are structurally designed to prevent releases and each box design is made
to prevent breakage. All boxes will remain shut with all flaps closed when lamps are not immediately
being deposited.
Procedures have also been implemented for all maintenance personnel that will ensure the boxes
remain closed while being stored. As a reminder, signs labeled "Keep containers completely closed when
not in use" have been ordered and will be posted throughout the storage area.
i.
f;
Y i
Yk`
