Optional A,„issorles
For Hydrostatic Tank
Monitoring
Antifreeze Mixtures
O/C Tanks recommends and
supplies the Hydrostatic Tank
Monitor for use with Fiberglas
double-wall tanks (Models
DWT -2P and DWT -413). If the
Hydrostatic Tank Monitor is
used in areas of the country
where ambient temperatures
or delivered product temper -
freezing conditions, an anti-
freeze solution must be used
to avoid potential tank damage.
Chemically acceptable anti-
freeze solutions include
ethylene glycol (automotive
antifreeze), propylene glycol
(food grade antifreeze), and
calcium chloride (non-toxic
brine). However, before selecting
the antifreeze solution, consult
local environmental codes for
possible restrictions—particu-
larly if ethylene glycol is used.
Brine Antifreeze Solution
As an optional accessory, O/C
Tanks can supply a calcium
chloride solution which is pre-
mixed and blended to provide
freeze protection to -40° F.
The Brine Antifreeze is non-
toxic and is often a lower cost
alternative to the other com-
mercially available antifreeze
solutions.
Glycol Antifreeze Solutions
A mixture of water and either
0hvi :nz glycol or propylene
glycol (contractor provided) is
r; -mate to provide pro -
again stn st freezing. Local
u;
environmental codes she
be reviewed for chemical ~
acceptability—particularly if
ethylene glycol is used. Ethyl-
eneglycol is usually less gxpen-
sive than propylene glycol.
A minimum of 30% ethylene
glycol or 35% propylene
glycol and water solution is
recommended. At or above
these minimum glycol concen-
trations, an antifreeze mixture
which freezes will contract in
volume, thus preventing damage
to the monitoring components,
tank and piping. Do not use
more than 75% glycol.
Water Paste Detection
To detect water in the tank
bottom, water detection paste
equipment distributors. How-
ever, some water detection
paste cannot detect antifreeze
mixtures. If antifreeze mix-
tures are used for the cavity
monitoring fluid, the following
product is capable of detecting
water or antifreeze (brine or
up to 50% glycol) solution in
the tank water bottoms:
WATER FINDER
#7686-1870
DAYCO/NATIONAL
DAYTON, OHIO
Fiberglas° Reservoir Sensor
All Model DWT -2P and DWT -
4P tanks include a Fiberglas
reservoir mounted on the tank
top as a standard feature.
After filling with liquid, the
level in the Fiberglas reservoir
may be monitored periodically
by using a dipstick or con-
tinuously by using the optional
reservoir sensor, in conjunc-
tion with an optional electronic
control panel.
The monitoring sensor is
placed into the Fiberglas
reservoir through a 4" riser
pipe from grade. The sensor
includes the riser pipe cap
with a 16" length of flexible
conduit, which is connected to
an electrical junction box (con-
tractor supplied). The reser-
voir sensor has sufficient
cable length for a maximum
tank burial depth of 10' from
the tank top to grade.
The reservoir sensor operates
on the principle of conduc-
of liquid in the Fiberglas reser-
voir. Under normal conditions,
the titanium metal probes will
be immersed in the liquid
media, thereby completing the
electrical sensing circuit (nor-
mally closed). If the reservoir
liquid level drains and
exposes the sensor probes,
an alarm will sound at the
electronic control panel_
Reservoir Sensor
Freeze
Glycol Mixture
Protection
-
(with water)
20°F
20%
0°F
30%
-20°F
40%
-40°F
50%
Water Paste Detection
To detect water in the tank
bottom, water detection paste
equipment distributors.
