U-Haul
Facility Number 709-83,450 North Cherokee Lane
Lodi, California
WPI Project#96237
HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
Page 16
B. If OVA measurements exceed 100 ppm in the breathing zone, the job will be shutdown
until procedures to lower the concentrations have been taken or the PPE has been
upgraded to Level B (supplied air respirators).
5.2.2 Site Monitoring
Site monitoring will be accomplished by use of appropriate portable organic vapor analyzers,
including combustible gas indicators (for determining lower explosive limit and oxygen
concentrations), photo-ionization detectors (Hnu, or Photovac TIP or Microtip) or flame
ionization detectors (Foxboro OVA, etc.). An appropriate instrument or instruments will be used
to identify on-site hydrocarbon vapors, especially during excavation operations, to assist in
determining contamination levels and to identify the methods of sampling and analytical
procedures to be employed.
Field measurements will be utilized for assessment of worker and community exposures. The
field measurements will be obtained to determine the appropriate protective equipment (See
Section 6.1) and site controls (See Section 7.1).
SECTION 6.0
6.1 PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
Personal protective equipment will be appropriate to protect against the potential hazards at each
site. Protective equipment will be selected based on the contaminant type(s), concentration(s),
and routes of entry. In situations where the type of materials and possibilities of contact are
unknown, or the hazards are not clearly identifiable, a higher level of safety gear will be utilized.
