U-Haul
Facility Number 709-83,450 North Cherokee Lane
Lodi, California
WPI Project#96237
HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
Page 18
SECTION 7.0
7.1 SITE CONTROL
Site control is necessary to protect personnel from WPI, U-Haul, subcontractors, the general
public, and as a means of reducing the possibility of exposure to contaminants that may be
present.
A control system is also required to assure that personnel and equipment working on the
hazardous waste site are subjected to appropriate health and safety surveillance.
The possibility of exposure to contaminants will be reduced or eliminated by the use of the
following methods, where appropriate:
1. Setting up security of physical barriers at the work site;
2. Minimizing the number of personnel and equipment on-site consistent with effective
operations;
3. Establishing work zones within the site;
4. Establishing control points to regulate access to work zones;
5. Establishing observation zones for project oversight by U-Haul personnel;
6. Establishing emergency evacuation routes and assembly area(s);
7. Implementing appropriate decontamination procedures; and,
8. Minimizing the airborne dispersion of contaminants.
Tailgate safety meetings will be conducted on site, each day, at the beginning of the work day.
At this time, the site safety officer will review the health and safety plan, including the actions to
be taken to minimize risks to on-site workers, visitors, and the public. An emergency plan will
be reviewed, along with routes to the nearest emergency medical facility.
A copy of the health and safety plan will kept on site at all times.
