Employees will be reminded that even though the excavations are shored, that it is always <br /> extremely beneficial to remain cautious of the situation. Extreme caution will be used to assure <br /> that heavy equipment does not upset the shoring system. In situations where size of the <br /> excavation is not restricted, the excavation will be sloped to the angle of repose. <br /> Noise Levels <br /> Whenever feasible,noise levels, identified as exceeding 85 decibels, will be reduced by means of <br /> engineering controls. These controls will include isolation, enclosure and application of noise <br /> reduction materials. Hearing protection shall be worn at all times when noise levels are suspected <br /> of being equal to or exceeding 85 decibels. Use of portable "walkman-type" radios are prohibited <br /> _ at any.time. A copy of the OSHA Occupational Noise Standard, 29 CFR 1910.95 shall be <br /> available, and copies shall be made available to employees upon request. GIRL Kause Inc. <br /> maintains a continuous hearing conservation program in accordance with 29 CFR Par 1910.95. <br /> Weather <br /> The weather condition is am important consideration in planning and conducting site operations. <br /> Extremely hot or cold weather can cause physical discomfort, loss of efficiency and personal <br /> injury. Of particular importance is heat stress, often resulting when protective clothing decreases <br /> the body's natural ventilation process. <br /> 5.0 Elimination of Hazards <br /> 5.1 Personal Protective Equipment <br /> All personnel working on the project site will wear the appropriate level of protection as <br /> described herein. It is anticipated that EPA Level D will be required;however, there is the <br /> posbility of asbestos in the cover over the UST. This will be determined in the field. If asbestos is <br /> present. The level of protection will be increased to level C. and full face resperators with bepa <br /> dust filters will be worn bay all personnel in the work zone. <br /> Level D Hard hat <br /> Safety glasses <br /> Steel-toed boots <br /> Coveralls (long pants and short sleeved shirts are also acceptable <br /> Level C Bard hat <br /> Safety glasses with side shields <br /> Full Face respirator with dual cartridges <br /> North Model 7700 respirator with North N7500-3 cartridges <br /> Organic vapor cartridges <br /> Tyvek hooded coveralls or polycoated Tyvek coverall when <br /> handling wet material <br /> PVC outer gloves 12" gauntlet <br /> Cloth inner glove <br /> Chemical resistant safety boots <br /> 5.2 Hazard Classification <br /> a.
