To monitor the unwanted presence of liquid inside the riser, an
optional electronic sensor is mounted at a specified position on
the wall of the attached manway riser. The unit permits
continuous electronic monitoring through the Xerxes supplied
control panel.
The solid state sensing probe consists of a liquid level sensing
element which is activated when a liquid rises to a
predetermined and unacceptable level in the riser. The level is
sensed and converted to a voltage output which in turn
activates the alarm system.
Installation
The manufacturer's instruction manual, covering installation,
operation and maintenance of the Xerxes supplied tank
monitoring system, is available from your Xerxes sales
representative. A copy of the manual will be sent with each
unit.
Note that the monitoring system must be installed in
accordance with the manufacturers instructions and all federal,
state and local laws and regulations. Failure to follow these
instructions, laws and regulations may impair instrument
performance and will void the manufacturer's warranties and
approvals. Only Xerxes supplied replacement parts are to be
used.
The platform allows for a monitoring system connection
through the 4" fitting farrow).
Wet Interstitial Space
Manually Checking Tank Integrity with a
Hydrostatic Reservoir
During ;piping, a 4"' PVC riser pipe is fastened to the fitting
atop the reservoir. This will be cut to a level below a street
box and secured with a threaded cap. The reservoir liquid
level and the tank's integrity can then be visually checked
with a dipstick. (A liquid level of 6" from the tank top should
be maintained )
In the unlikely event of a tank leak, the liquid will drain from
the reservoir. If the leak is in the interior wall, the monitoring
fluid will drain into the
primary tank and can
Street Box
be detected with ao: a
r-1 , A*; M
water -finding paste at Concrete Pad
•'
If Xerxes' tanks are
;
the tank's bottom.I
Ground• Sensor wire
Hydrostatic Monitor, the
Riser Pipe
Should a leak occur in
' Riser Pipe
and secondary tank walls
the outer wall, theTape
monitored through a 4"
measure or
monitoring fluid willrt
end of tanks of 3,000
dipstick
also drain from the Re
Primary Tank
reservoir and intersticeLiquid
installed on 550; 1,000
into the gravelLevel
and 2,500 gallon capacity
Interstitial Space
environment, No waterwill
access to the tank bottom
be detected in theprimary
through the
tank.Tank
ribs—open to the
"The liquid level in the reservoir will fluctuate with the temperature differential of
incoming product. By providing
access to the tank bottom
through the
circumferential end
ribs—open to the
interstitial space—a liquid
sensor, or a vacuum or
air pressure monitoring
system may be used.
