SEMCO triple rinses underground
ptrolaun tanks on site with a high-pressure Washing system. SEMCO adds biosolve detergent to
its rinse water rendering the tanks clean. The underground petroleum tanks are given a tracking
number at the site by the local regulatory oversight agency. Dry ice is then added to the tank(the
amount of dry ice depends on size and type of product the rank held),an hour later the LEL is
checked, and the tanks are loaded onto trucks. The underground petroleum tanks are then
transported too and off-loaded at SEMCO's yard, located at 1217 S. Seventh St.io Modesto.
At SEMCO's yard the tanks are off loaded from the truck and tested again for LEL. Before
cutting 2'X 2' square holes in each end of the tank, SEMCO adds venturi ventilation to the tank
and rechecks the LEL. If the reading is zero than the tank is cut. The"cut tanks"are then
reloaded uuw the truck and shipped to Modesto Junk. Modesto Junk signs the tank tracking
document and than recycles the tank as steel. SEMCO thea sends a oopy ofthe tank tracking
document(as well as all other pettment information)to the local regulatory agency and the tank
owner.
SEMCO has been given permission by the Stanislaus County Fire Department to re-usc clean
uderground petroleum tanks for fire suppression storage[auks. SEMCO only muses tanks if it
bhs permission to do so from the regulatory agency responsible for the tank. To this date no tanks
fmm San Joaquin County have been re-used. If San Joaquin County has a policy for reuse of
uIpderground petroleum storage tanks SEMCO would be interested in its requirements. 1 have
included a copy of this letter for your files.
'(frank you for your assistance ie processing this removal application.
