LA FINCA NO. 1 PARTNERSHIP
P.O. BOX 1307
GRASS VALLEY, CA 95945
(530) 478-6464
FAX (530) 265-3440
October 1, 1999
Mr. Matthew Parker, REHS
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division
304 East Weber Ave. , 3rd Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
RE: 1611 South Airport Way, Stockton, CA 95206
Dear Mr. Parker,
Pursuant to your letter of August 24, 1999, please know that we have
interviewed a number of contractors relative to the removal of the
one (1) approximate 1, 000 gallon underground fuel storage tank. As
you are aware, this property was purchased from the Federal
Government (U.S. Forest Service) around 1980 and escrow was
consumated in early 1983 . The Federal Government represented to us
at the time that there were two (2) approximate 1, 000 gallon
underground fuel storage tanks. They further represented that both
tanks had been discontinued and removed from service and, in fact,
had been filled with sand thereby rendering them out of any further
service or use. As you are further aware, the recent fire caused a
more close examination which revealed that one tank had been filled
with sand and one tank, the diesel tank, was still in place.
We have retained Mr. James J. Hoblitzell of Stockton to remove the
tank under proper permit. Please forward any required forms to him
in that regard. He may be reached as follows:
James J. Hoblitzell
P.O. Box 30331
Stockton, CA 95213-0331
(209) 943-7793 FAX (209) 943-2811
Further, Mr. Hoblitzell has advised us that we consider removing the
one tank filled with sand as it is proximate to the diesel tank. As
it was properly closed and taken out of service pursuant to law
existing at the time, it has been reported to us that this sand
filled tank may be removed and scrapped without any permitting. If
that is not your understanding, please indicate so and provide us
with any legal authority. Thank you for your consideration.
Regards,
' 2-T'
La Fi c, No. 1 Partnership
Floy Smithson
Operations Manager
