Tel (916) 354-3250
Fax (916) 354-3251
Re: Request for UST Closure
Former PX Service Station, Stockton Metropolitan Airport
Dear Mr. McClellan:
On behalf of the Stockton Metropolitan Airport, Ramage Environmental is pleased to
provide the San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) with this request for UST closure for the above -referenced site. The
Stockton Metropolitan Airport requests an expedited review and closure certification so
that construction can begin at the site.
On May 27, 1998, Thorpe Oil Company of Lodi, California removed two 3,000 gallon
USTs and two dispenser islands at the site. Two soil samples were collected from
beneath each tank, one soil sample was collected from beneath each dispenser island and
one four -point composite soil sample was collected from the waste soil stockpile. The
sample locations are shown on the attached site sketch.
Each of the samples were transported under chain -of -custody documentation to
GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc., a state of California certified hazardous waste testing
laboratory, and analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH)-as-Diesel, TPH-as-
Gasoline, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), Total Lead and six oxygenate
compounds (MTBE, Ethanol, TBA, DIPE, ETBE and TAME). The results of the soil
sample analyses are summarized in the attached table and the laboratory report is
enclosed.
The only compounds detected by the laboratory include TPH-as-Diesel at a maximum
concentration of 15 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) and total lead at a maximum
concentration of 14 mg/kg. Based on these results, it appears that the site has not been
impacted by significant concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons.
To facilitate upcoming construction and tenancy at the site, the Stockton Metropolitan
Airport requests that PHS/EHD grant regulatory closure of the site, as soon as possible.
