Flued capillary columns ate
preferred to packed columns; a packed column may be used as a 'first cut' with 'dirty' samples or once the hydrocarbons
have been characterized and proper QA/AC is followed.
For Drinking water sources, EPA recommends that the 500 series for volatile organics be used in preference to the 600
aeries because the detection limits are lower and the QA1QC Is better. Samples exhibiting any level of heavy metal
contamination may require further analysis. PHS-EHD recommends holding these samples until disposal is indicated.
EH 23 048 (Revised 7/10192) Page . 14
