Ms. Donna Heran Project 2527-100.01
January 19, 1995
Page 2
The analytical laboratory composited the soil samples four to one and analyzed the sample
for the following petroleum hydrocarbon compounds:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG) using California Department
of Health Services (DHS) Leaking Underground Fuel Tank (LUFT)
methodology
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) using Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8020
• TPHD using DHS LUFT methodology
• Total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons using EPA Method 418.1
TPHD was detected at 290 mg/kg and total recoverable hydrocarbons were detected at
770 mg/kg. TPHG and BTEX did not exceed the respective method detection limits.
Certified analytical reports and chain-of-custody documentation are presented in
Attachment A.
Based on the analytical results, it was determined that the soil corresponded to the original
soil contained in stockpiles SP-2 and SP-3. The differences in TPHD and oil
concentrations were attributed to collecting soil samples from different parts of the
stockpile, and analysis by different analytical methods than originally used.
On behalf of JTF, EMCON submitted a disposal application to Forward, Inc., Landfill.
The soil was transported to Forward, Inc., for class II disposal on December 2, 1994.
Disposal manifests contained in Attachment B indicate the actual volume of soil was
36 cubic yards.
This information regarding soil stockpile sampling and disposal should permit closure of
the site file. If you require additional information, please contact one of the undersigned.
Sincerely,
EMCON
/,P
Mark Capps erry? nham P.E.
Staff Geologist Vice President
Attachments: Attachment A Certified Analytical Reports
Attachment B Disposal Manifests
cc: Richard Thurn,Gray and Thum
Christopher Taylor, John Taylor Fertilizer
SACW:\PJT2527\25271000.1 AL-94Vfc:2
