4.1.6 Open Excavation <br />All open excavations and ground openings will be protected from inadvertent entry. <br />Any openings left open will be barricaded and/or covered to prevent entry by <br />unauthorized personnel. Personnel entry into the excavation will not be allowed <br />without proper sloping, shoring or shielding as required by the Cal -OSHA Excavation <br />Standards, 8 CCR 1539-1541.1. All excavations will be maintained with adequate <br />means of egress for personnel working within. Any obviously uneven terrain that <br />poses a tripping hazard will be filled in or otherwise protected to prevent injury. <br />Likewise, cleared walkways will be established around any debris and equipment on <br />the ground, in order to minimize any tripping/contacthazard. <br />4.1.7 Tank Removals <br />The actual tank removal presents a combination of physical hazards, including <br />crushing hazards from heavy equipment and removal of the tank. Ground personnel <br />will remain clear and visible to the equipment operator during tank removal <br />operations. Placement area of the tank will be determined prior to extraction of the <br />tanks from the excavation. Once tank is extracted and placed, they will be secured to <br />prevent rolling by placing "Chocks" under both sides of the tank. <br />�. 4.1.8 Confined Space entry <br />Personnel Entry into an excavation will require that the excavation be evaluated for <br />confined space conditions, ie., oxygen deficiency, limited egress, etc., before entry. <br />Confined space entries must be conducted with continuous on-site supervision by the <br />Certified Industrial Hygienist and designated Confined Space Entry Supervisor. <br />5.0 PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br />The minimum level of protection for exclusion area personnel includes: <br />Hardhat; <br />Steel -toed work boots; <br />Safety Glasses; <br />Long-sleeved shirt. <br />During excavation, direct contact with soils or liquids, and any other activities where <br />skin contact is a potential exposure mechanism, poly -coated Tyvek coveralls and <br />nitrile gloves will be utilized. <br />Chemical goggles/safety glasses will be work to prevent eye contact via splash or <br />dust, as necessary. Pressure washing operation will require the use of M -face <br />faceshields and goggles. <br />
