' THORNE
IPENVIRONMENTAL
A TG Company
May 8, 1989
Ms. Casey FoleySan Joaquin Local Health DistrictF(g"YEO
1601 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95205
MAY 1 r" 1989
Subject: Transmittal of Site Information
King Island Resort Cw i LTH
Stockton, California PEMAI ) ❑ VICES
Dear Ms. Foley:
Attached are copies of the analytical test results for soil and
groundwater grab samples collected on April 10, 1989 , from two
geotechnical borings which were drilled behind the restaurant on
the King Island Resort property (see attached site plan) . These
samples were collected during a follow-up drilling program after
a geotechnical engineer reported the presence of hydrocarbons in
the soil and shallow groundwater during foundation test drilling.
Thorne Environmental, Inc. was subsequently requested to assist
King Island Resort personnel in assessing the presence of the
hydrocarbons.
Grab soil and groundwater samples were collected from the two
boreholes in samples containers provided by the laboratory. The
samples were labelled, placed in an ice filled chest and were
delivered under appropriate chain of custody to Anlab Laboratory,
a State certified laboratory. The soil and groundwater samples
were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons using a modified
Method 8015 and for BTXE (benzene, toluene, xylene, and
ethylbenzene) using Methods 8020 and 602 respectively. It was the
intent of the sampling to confirm the presence or absence of
petroleum hydrocarbons, rather than to identify the source of the
product.
Independent of the soil sampling, the domestic well which services
the property had been sampled on March 27 , 1989 by California Water
Labs and analyzed for bacteria, inorganics, organics, general
physical, general mineral, and the Title 22 constituents. This
well is located approximately 100 feet away from the nearest soil
boring. The results of this water analysis are attached and
document that no BTXE or other fuel compounds are present in the
drinking water source.
There are three (3) underground tanks on the subject property; one
6000 gallon leaded, one 2000 gallon unleaded, and one 4000 gallon
diesel (see attached figure) . The tanks and lines of all three
tanks were last tightness tested on July 26, 1988. No leaks were
reported during those tests. Because of the recently discovered
hydrocarbons found on the property, the tanks and lines have been
scheduled for a retest at 8 : 00 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 1989 .
