JOMATING INBTRUCTIONB
AERATION (PURGE) : The principle of operation balancing the column of
J gauge liquid against the head pressure of the tank liquid -depends upon
1J Pilling the Tank Assembly Air Bell with compressed air. For this, the
J Petrometer is equipped with an Aerator (a manually operated pump) .
INITIAL (FIRST) AERATION: An installation on a Pull or
partly Pilled tank,
especially one containing a liquid of high viscosity such as No. 6 oil,
liquid asphalt, etc. . , requires a large number of strokes on the Aerator.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO AVOID PARTIAL OR INTERRUPTED AERATION as this can cause
i "flooding" of the gauge and damage to the Aerator. The amount of AERATION
depends upon the depth of the tank liquid and the type (hence, the volume)
of the tank assembly. A standard Petrometer air bell ( 1-1/2" O. D. X 6"
long) for a 10 foot tank will take about 25 uninterrupted strokes on the
AERATOR. After installation on an empty tank, the amount of aeration
required at the first filling of the tank is the same as at a normal
refilling.
The first aeration is also a test of the system. A properly functioning
Petrometer in an air-tight installation WILL HOLD its reading. If the
gauge liquid drops, refer to "SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS'' .
Once opened, the aerator must remain in open (UP) position at all times. r
The Petrometer is a semi-automatic instrument, and will require aeration
only after the tank has been filled, and for checking the indications.
To check reading : Move aerator briskly a Pew times (down-and-up) and take
a reading. IP in doubt repeat above until two like readings are obtained
DO NOT TOUCH AERATOR WHEN GLASS IS FILLED TO THE TOP WITH LIQUID. Wait
until some of the tank contents arr used, and liquid drops to a level
below full capacity.
2 -
