CONCRETE ANCHOR PAD The weight of the overburden on the concrete pad and tank provides anchoring force. The anchor pad information pro- vided here is strictly for buoyancy: ♦ Anchor Pad should be at least 8" thick, with #6 rebar at 12" on center each way (see figure 12). Constructed per current ACI code. FIGURE 12 r ♦ The pad must be at least the same length as the tank. ♦ The pad must extend a minimum of 18" beyond the sides of the tank. ♦ Poor soil conditions may require increased reinforcement and anchor pad thickness. Contact a soils consult- ant for specifics. ♦ In unstable soils, it is best to extend the pad to excava- tion wall. ♦ Multiple tank installations require 24" minimum spacing between tanks. ♦ Imbed anchor points in concrete. (see Anchoring Hard- ware section) ♦ Make sure there is at least 12" bedding between con- crete pad and tanks. The maximum bedding is 24". ♦ Attach anchor points to the ends of anchor straps with. turnbuckles or wire rope. • Refer to "Anchoring Hardware" section for hardware in- formation. ♦ Triple clamp wire rope. DEADMAN ANCHORS ♦ The weight of the overburden on top of the deadman and tank provides the anchoring force. ♦ Deadmen are made with reinforced concrete reinforced according to American Concrete Institute Guide. ♦ Deadmen must be at least the same length as the tank. ♦ For tanks requiring four or more anchor points per dead - man, two deadmen sections of equal length may be butted end to end. ♦ Make sure each deadman section has at least two anchor points. A round cross section can be substituted if the diameter equals or exceeds the deadman width. If tank is buried deeper than the minimum burial depth, a smaller width deadman may be used.
