Snp'02-99 01:05P Evan= 9votthnvn Inc. 925 ^13 0229 P.13
`/
Gateway Project - Stockton, CA Evans Brothers Inc.
7. HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
7.1 Medical Monitoring Program
Medical monitoring is not required for this project as there are no known contaminates
requiring medical monitoring. However, should any FBI personnel elect to wear
respirators other than paper filter respirators, they will be qualified by a licensed
physicians prior to wearing respirator.
7.2 Respiratory Programs
This SSP has attempted to discuss and address identified and anticipated health and
safety issues as may arise from the performance of this contract. Addenda to the
Specification will be reviewed by the Project Manager and Site Health and Safety
Officer for any potential changes to this SSP.
7.3 Work Zones Access
Access within fenced area is prohibited to all but EBI, subcontract field personnel and
designated personnel.
7.4 Emergency Equipment
Vehicles used for site work will be equipped with a first aid kit and safety equipment
including:
• fluorescent vests
• cones
• flags (as needed)
• barricades (as needed)
• fire extinguisher -dry chemical ABC -type extinguisher
• flashlight
• water, suitable for drinking
• portable eye wash
• appropriate emergency bandage material
7.5 Electrical Equipment and Ground -Fault Circuit Interrupters
All electrical equipment and power cables in and around wells or structures suspected
of containing hazardous substance contamination must be intrinsically safe and
equipped with a three -wire ground lead, rated explosion -proof for hazardous
atmospheres. According to OSHA 29 CFR 1926.404, approved ground fault circuit
interrupters (GFCI) must be used for all 120 volt, single phase, 15 and 20 ampere
receptacle outlets on the site that are not in use by employees. Receptacles on the ends
of extension cords are not part of the permanent wiring and, therefore, must be
protected by GFCIs whether or not the extension cord is plugged into permanent wiring.
The GFCI is a fast -acting circuit breaker that sense small imbalances in the circuit
caused by current leakage to ground, and in a fraction of a second shuts off the
electricity. However, the GFCI will not protect the employee from line -to -line contact
hazards (such as a person holding two "hot' wires or a hot and neutral wire in each
hand). The GFCI does provide protection against the most common form of electrical
Pagc 11 of 25
