APPENDIX C —7 <br />DEFINITION OF HAZARD EVALUATION GUIDELINES <br />Hazard: Airborne Contaminants <br />Threshold Limit Value <br />Time -Weighted Average <br />(TLV -TWA) <br />Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) <br />Immediately Dangerous to Lite and <br />Health (IDLH) <br />Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) <br />Upper Explosive Limit (UEL) <br />Explanation <br />The time weighted average concentration <br />for a normal eight hour work day and a <br />forty -hour work week, to which nearly all <br />workers may be repeatedly exposed <br />without adverse effect. <br />Time weighed average concentrations <br />similar to (and in many cases derived from) <br />the Threshold Limit Values. <br />"IDLH" or "Immediately dangerous to life <br />or health" means any atmospheric <br />condition that poses an immediate threat to <br />lire, or that is likely to result in acute or <br />immediate severe health effects.
