(Twining) were authorized by Ms. Suzanne
Sullivan in an "Authorization to Proceed", TLP 3799-0484B dated August 3, 1999 and TLP
3799-0484C dated September 24, 1999.
OBSERVATION AND SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Upon removal of the USTs, the depth to the base below site grade was measured and recorded.
The physical dimensions of the USTs were measured and are summarized in Table 1. The USTs
were observed for oxidation, discoloration, holes, and other distinguishing physical
characteristics. Soils within the UST excavation were observed for discoloration and the
presence of petroleum product odors.
The soil samples recovered from beneath the former UST locations were collected by driving a
precleaned stainless steel sleeve into soil retrieved by a backhoe. Soil samples from beneath the
former dispenser locations were collected from the bottom of a soil borehole drilled with a hand
auger. The samples were collected by driving a soil sampler equipped with a stainless-steel
retention sleeve into the undisturbed soil at the bottom of the borehole. Soil cuttings generated
during hand angering were replaced in the borehole after sampling. Soil sample locations and
depths were specified by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services' (SJCPHS) on-site
representative. Two soil samples were also collected from the soil stockpiles at the project site
CORPORATE OFFICE MODESTO VISALIA BAKERSFIELD
2527 Fresno Street 4230 Kiernan Ave., #105 130 North Kelsey St., #H6 3701 Pegasus Drive, #124
Fresno, CA 93721-1804 Modesto, CA 95256-9322 Visalia, CA 93291-9000 Bakersfield, CA 93308-6843
(559) 268-7021 • Fax 268-7126 (209) 545-1050 • Fax 545.1147 (559) 651-8280 • Fax 651-8268 (661) 393-5088 • Fax 393-4643
SALINAS
520 #A Crazy Horse Canyon Rd.
Salinas, CA 93907-8434
(831) 449-5284 • Fax 449-5092
