Tracy Joint Union High �KOOI District Health and Safety Plan UST Removal WES Project No. 4028-T Page 1 December 2, 1993 SECTION 1.0 INTRODUCTION The health and safety of all project personnel involved at the 315 E. Eleventh Street underground storage tank excavation project is of primary importance. Therefore, this Health and Safety Plan was developed and is intended to be followed by all project personnel. It is the responsibility of the Project Manager to implement and enforce the plan and any subsequent revisions, during the course of all operations at the site. 1 . 1 OVERVIEW Tracy High School District has retained Wright Environmental Services, Inc. (WES) to perform the location and removal of one (1) underground storage tank at the site of 315 E. Eleventh street, Tracy Joint Union High School Distirct, Old Transportation Facility Tracy, CA. The work will consist of: removing underground storage tank (UST) and the associated piping. The removal of this tank involves six basic steps: 1. Draining/cleaning of all liquid from the tank and all associated lines. 2. Capping or removing associated lines 3. Excavation and removing the tank from the ground. 4. Freeing the tank of toxic vapors 5. Disposing of the tank 6. Backfilling the excavation hole. The chemical hazards expected to be encountered at the site of 315 E. 11 th street are organics and metals from fuel oil. The other hazards expected to be encountered during the project are exposure to physical hazards such as slipping, tripping, cuts, strains bruises, smashing limbs from working around heavy equipment (pinch points), excessive noise, broken bones and heat stress.
