Site Specific health & Safety Plan <br />5700 W 11th Street, Tracy, CA <br />Page Two <br />o Load and ship tanks and piping off site for disposal. <br />o Backfill and compact excavation. <br />Hazards by work tack <br />o Heavy equipment will he used for excavation. This heavy equipment represents a <br />crushing hazard. All personnel must remain beyond the extent of swing of equipment <br />to prevent accidental impact with heavy equipment. <br />o An explosion hazard exists during tank removal. Dry ice will be used to inert the tank <br />and an oxygen analyzer will be used to verify that the lower explosive limit is below that <br />which would sustain an explosion. <br />o Sampling of soil beneath tank. No entry of personnel will be permitted to the excavation <br />when the excavation is greater than 5 feet unless the excavation is properly sloped or <br />shored. In this case the sampling will be performed by removal of the soil in the <br />backhoe bucket and sampling will be perfornud at the surface from the backhoe bucket. <br />Chemical Hazards <br />The tanks to be removed contained unleaded gasoline, diesel and waste oil. Volatile vapors are <br />of concern. Gasoline contains benzene a known carcinogen. <br />Tank Loading For Off Site Shipment <br />The tanks will be loader by crane on trucks for off site disposal. During loading it will be <br />imperative that all personnel remain at a safe distance until the load is deposited on the truck. <br />Site Securitv <br />The site will be fenced with temporary fencing. <br />Protective Clothing <br />Protective clothing required for this operation will be cotton clothing. Gloves will be used to <br />protect hands (skin) if contact with gasoline is possible. Respirators with organic vapor <br />cartridges will be used when gasoline vapors are present. Steeltoed boots are required. No <br />other protective clothing is required. <br />
