Outline of Daily Safety Briefings <br />Hard hats will be worn while working around heavy <br />equipment (safety glasses, ear plugs, boots, etc. <br />will be worn on the job site. <br />No open flames, cigarettes, etc. will be allowed <br />in the work area. <br />The bungs on the tanks will be kept closed when <br />removing the tank from the excavation. <br />C.) Tank Excavation Procedures (If applicable): <br />Before any excavation work begins, ALL required <br />permits shall be obtained. The estimated location <br />of utility installations such as sewer, telephone, <br />fuel, electric, water lines, or any other <br />underground installations that may reasonably be <br />expected to be encountered during excavation will <br />be outlined. U.S.A. Dig will be called 48 hours <br />prior to excavation. <br />Excavation for the removal of underground tanks <br />must be approached with extreme care to prevent <br />undermining the foundations of existing <br />structures. A minimum distance of five feet to <br />the base of the adjacent structures of property <br />lines is recommended. The total depth of the tank <br />excavation is determined by the tank diameter, <br />bedding thickness, holddown pad if required, depth <br />of cover, and slope of piping. <br />The slope of the walls of the excavation is <br />determined by soil conditions and depth of <br />excavation. <br />Handling excavated materials which cannot be <br />immediately removed from the site should be safely <br />stockpiled away from the edge of the excavation <br />keeping work areas clear of stockpiled material. <br />Employees shall be protected from the excavation <br />
