�I2IES FOR IINDERGROIIND TANK REMOPAL <br /> It is the intent of these guidelines to add continuity to the <br /> procedures ' for underground tank removal:' • Bei sure you,"have <br /> completed the necessary paperwork with the San- Joaquin County <br /> Environmental Health Department prior to applying for City of <br /> Stockton permits. Also, please note that a minimum of 48 hOL= <br /> advance notice is reaL;,-gds keeping in mind that the more advance <br /> notice given the more likely Your inspection will be scheduled on <br /> the date of your choice. <br /> 1. A written safety plan is required that meets Cal-Osha <br /> requirements. <br /> 2. Post signs prohibiting any ignition source: <br /> a) Example: "No Smoking" , "No Cutting and Welding", etc. <br /> 3 . Provide a minimum rated 20BC or larger fire extinguisher at <br /> tank site. <br /> 4 . You must have a calibrated, explosion-proof combustible gas <br /> meter on site. <br /> a) LEL And Oxygen must both be below 9% prior to removal, <br /> or <br /> b) Oxygen only, 5% on the oxygen for gasoline and diesel <br /> tanks , or <br /> c) LEL only, 18 on gasoline and diesel. <br /> d) Extra filters and equipment to calibrate instruments <br /> must be on site. <br /> e) Make and model number of instrument must be available <br /> to inspector. <br /> f) Appropriate measures are required to assure the LEL <br /> percentage is maintained during and after excavation. <br /> 1) Monitor tanks once per hour for LEL and Oxygen <br /> after removal from ground while on site. <br /> 5. All tanks and connecting lines shall be purged of the product <br /> and rinsate material. Rinsate material shall be handled as a <br /> hazardous waste: <br /> a) Requirement for dry ice use: <br /> 1) 15 lbs. per 1, 000 gallon capacity for diesel tanks. <br /> 2) 30 lbs . per 1, 000 gallon capacity for gasoline tanks. <br /> PAGE EIGHTEEN <br />
