PHS/EHD has prepared the following comments for your consideration.
The report included a brief site history indicating that the July 7, 1994 over-excavation attempted
to remove soil impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons. The purpose of this recent investigation
was to determine the extent of residual soil contamination, to evaluate the potential future impact
to groundwater, and to verify that groundwater has not been impacted.
Three soil borings were drilled and sampled on June 22, 1995, one of which was converted into
a monitoring well, MW1. No soil contamination was detected in any of the samples submitted
for analysis and neither was groundwater contamination in any of the samples collected on June
30, 1995 and September 26, 1995.
The extent of soil contamination appears very limited. However, Twinning Laboratories failed to
estimate the volume and mass of residual soil contamination, which is necessary to recommend
the site for closure.
Please submit in addendum an estimate of the residual soil contamination, a work plan to
destroy the monitoring wells, Qnn :-•_ L-
PHS/EHD looks forward to certification of this site for closure.
