James Giottonini
Page 3
2500 Navy Drive Ij
Field observations at the time of the removal of the additional unIderground storage tanks at this site
indicated soil contamination. However, no results from the soil sampling have been submitted to
PHS/EHD. The COS will submit the results from the tank removal soil:rsampling within two weeks.
At the time of the tank removal and during the limited overexcavation the soil removed had a strong
hydrocarbon odor. PHS/EHD received a fax copy of soil sample,results from this stockpiled soil which
surprisingly showed very low to nondetect results. PHS/EHD was not notified of this sampling and
therefore was not present to observe the methods used to obtain, handle ,store, or transport the samples.
The submitted soil results were not consistent with the field observations of this soil, however the City
indicated the soil pile will be disposed of at an appropriate facility. A description of the material used
to backfill the tank pit area and a soil disposal plan will also be submitted to PHS/EHD within two
weeks. ;}
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10, 1995 at 1:30 p.m! and will be held at the PHS/EHD
office.
I
Should you have any questions or disagree with this summary of the September 13, 1994 meeting, please contact
Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337 or Linda Turkatte at (209) 468-3441.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division If
8
Mary Meays, Sen r RE Diane inson, REAS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
i
MMICOS.MET
c: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCS c: Jim Escobar, COS Public Works
c: Stephen Chen, COS Public Works
c: John Lane, RESNA Escalon }
I
"
3i
Iv r
'y b
sr
i
Il
;;F
