` %001 Grg'n d Storage Tank Removal Report
730 E.Channel Street,Stockton,CA
Page 2
The soil in the excavation generally consisted of dark to medium brown clay. There were no significant
lateral variations in the soil conditions through the extent of the excavation, suggesting that the original
excavation to install the UST was likely backfilled with native material. Soil staining and petroleum
` odors were noted in the excavation and excavated soil. Groundwater was not encountered in the
excavation. Photographs #4 through #6 show the tank pit. Upon removal of the UST, product started to
drain from the UST. A small pool of product formed at the southern end of the excavation. The pool of
material and soil beneath it were removed and separated from the other soil from the excavation.
` Photograph#5 shows the small pool of product.
The site is the former location of the Stockton Metropolitan Transit District (1945-1975). The UST had
6' not been used for many years. Observation of the exterior of the UST indicated that the tank was in poor
condition. Corrosion and holes were noted on the UST. The UST and associated piping were hauled off-
site by West Coast Equipment to Turlock,California.
Approximately 85 feet of piping associated with the UST, previously removed USTs, a dispenser, and a
diesel filter were also removed. The removed piping was observed to generally be in good condition with
only minor corrosion.During the removal of some of the piping extending north from the diesel filter and
east to the dispenser, some diesel product was released from the dispenser. Photograph #7 shows the
dispenser area after the diesel product was released. The excavated soil from the dispenser area was
.. segregated from the other soil. The removed piping was transported off-site by OES.
3.0 SOIL SAMPLING
` Following removal of the UST, soil samples were collected from locations directed by Ms. Abate of the
SJCEHD. Soil sample locations are shown in Figure 2 in Appendix A.
` • Soil sample "NorthTK-8"' was collected from approximately two feet beneath the northern end of
the UST, approximately eight feet below ground surface (bgs).
• Soil sample "SouthTK-8"' was collected from approximately two feet beneath the southern end of
the UST,approximately eight feet bgs.
• Soil sample "Dispenser" was collected from approximately two feet beneath the dispenser,
approximately three feet bgs.
• Soil sample "Filter" was collected from approximately two feet beneath the diesel filter,
approximately three feet bgs.
• Soil sample "Trench-N" was collected from approximately two feet beneath the piping and located
approximately 20 feet north of the building, approximately three feet bgs.
• Soil sample "Trench-E" was collected from approximately two feet beneath the piping and located
approximately 25 feet north and 16 feet west of the building, approximately three feet bgs.
• Soil samples "Stockpile-N" and "Stockpile-S" were collected from the soil excavated from the UST
removal.
The soil samples collected from beneath the UST excavation, piping, dispenser, and diesel were obtained
by manually driving a clean brass tube into soil brought to the surface in the backhoe bucket. The soil
samples collected from the stockpile were obtained by manually driving a clean brass tube into the soil
. stockpile. The soil samples were immediately sealed with Teflon sheeting, capped, labeled, and placed
in a cooler chilled with ice. The soil samples were delivered under chain-of-custody procedures to Argon
Laboratories of Ceres,California, for analyses.
r
/ COeNNDODr0::R„
