September 26 , 1988 IL'
THE
SOUTHLAND
CORPORATION
Calif . Reg . Water Qual . Cont . Board
c/o Mr . Gordon Boggs
Central Valley Region
3443 Routier Rd .
Sacramento , Ca 95815
RE : Southland Location #20304 , Tracy , Ca
Dear Mr . Boggs :
Attached herewith is the response provided by Harding Lawson
Associates , our consultants for this project , to your corres-
pondence of 29 August 1988 .
We concur with HLA ' s proposal to let the subsurface conditions ,
as recognized by the geologist who will be supervising the
drilling , dictate the actual depth of the well . Thirty to
forty feet may be adequate , although we should be prepared to
go deeper if necessary at this time rather than to incur yet
another expense at some later time when we might be required
to provide a deeper well .
The requested vapor study has been performed and does verify
that no petroleum vapors are entering the store building through
the concrete slab floor at this time . The attached table 1
provides the results of that survey . Plate 1 depicts the loc-
ation from which these readings were obtained .
And finally , we support the contention that the earlier results
from MW-14 were an anomaly that had no relationship to the contam-
ination in the monitor wells that had been impacted . The recent
sampling of MW-14 with non-detectable levels confirms this position.
We request your prompt attention and approval of this revised pro-
posal for the additional well so that we might stay on schedule
for a drilling date of October 17th .
Encl .
