KEI-J88-0810
August 30, 1988
Page 2
Two (2) native soil samples, labeled A and B, were taken beneath
the tank at depths of 12 and 10 feet below grade, respectively.
The undisturbed samples were collected from bulk material
excavated by backhoe. The samples were placed in clean, two-inch
diameter brass tubes, sealed with aluminum foil and plastic caps
and were stored in a cooled ice chest for delivery to a certified
laboratory. During excavation, groundwater was encountered at a
depth of approximately 12.5 feet below grade. One water sample,
labeled W-1, was collected from the pit. The sample was placed
in a clean VOA vial with a Teflon -lined screw cap and was labeled
and stored on ice for delivery to the certified laboratory.
SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
The subsurface soils exposed
primarily of silt and clay.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
in the excavation consisted
All samples were analyzed by Sequoia Analytical Laboratory of
Redwood City, California, and were accompanied by properly
executed chain of custody forms. The soil samples were analyzed
for total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) as gasoline, benzene,
toluene, xylene and ethylbenzene (BTXE), ethylene dibromide and
organic lead, using EPA methods, 5030, 3810 8015 and 8020. The
water sample was analyzed for TPH and BTXE. The analytical
results are summarized in Table 1. Copies of the laboratory
analyses and the chain of custody forms are attached to this
report.
DISCUSSION
Analytical results of the soil samples indicate non-detectable
levels of organic lead and ethylene dibromide. TPH levels were
200 parts per million (ppm) and 240 ppm for samples A and B,
respectively. The water sample had 130 parts per billion (ppb)
benzene.
A copy of this report should be sent to the Tracy Fire
Department, the San Joaquin County Department of Health, and to
the Regional Water Quality Control Board.
