(Ground Zero) is submitting this workplan, on behalf of Casey A. Matt,
to address the comments in the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department's (EHD)
letter dated 26 June 2008 and included as Attachment A. Ground Zero presents the following
proposed scope of work to determine if soil beneath the former underground storage tanks (USTs)
has been impacted. The location of the site is shown on Figure 1.
SITE BACKGROUND
Seven USTs previously used to store petroleum hydrocarbon fuels were removed from 1303 First
Street, Escalon, California (Site) under EHD permit on September 9, 1986. Analytical data from
soil samples collected during the tank removal activities were not submitted to EHD in an approved
format.
Two soil samples were collected from the Site in 1996 during environmental investigations
conducted by the City of Escalon along the McHenry Avenue/Hwy 120 corridor in preparation for a
roadway realignment project. One of the two borings indicated the presence of elevated petroleum
hydrocarbons on the Site.
In an effort to determine if soil beneath the former USTs has been impacted, Ground Zero proposes
to advance five soil borings beneath the former tank pit locations as well as near Kleinfelder's
boring B-24, the 1996 soil boring with elevated results (Figure 2).
GAGROUNDZEWATT\Reports\Work Plans\Wtial Site Investigation.doc
