y J
2.0 TANK CLEANING AND INSPECTION
A detailed drawing of the tank is presented in Figure 3. The tank is of
reinforced concrete construction, baffled into two chambers. The tank
cleaning began with IT Corporation Services Division pumping out the tank
contents. Services personnel then pressure washed the interior surfaces of
the tank using Bola" industrial degreaser to remove residual motor oil . The
tank contents and rinse solutions were removed, transported, and disposed of
under proper uniform hazardous waste manifesting procedures to IT's Vine Hill
Treatment Facility. The service work orders and predisposal analysis for the
tank contents are included in Appendix I.
After cleaning the tank, the IT Services foreman visually inspected the tank
and reported observing no signs of distress in the tank construction (cracks,
holes, or other structural problems). Based on the foreman' s report of the
integrity of the tank further sampling work was recommended and authorized to
verify that the tank had not leaked. This work was considered essential in
order to allow the continued serviceability of the tank.
2
ENG:0551/02246
